Venice-Florence-Rome - Should I add Cinque terre

Hi, we will be in Italy 10 days. It is my boyfriends first time but I have been before. Are plan is to see Venice Florence, and Rome in that order - I have never been to the Cinque Terre area - does it make sense to add this in? If so when - we will be taking trains - would it make sense to go Venice to Cinque Terre then to Florence or Florence to Cinque Terre then to Rome? Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. We will be traveling at the end of July and beg of August. Thank-you in advance for your help, Kristin

I would not add in the CT on this trip. You really don't have a lot of time on the ground. Plus it is a bit out of the way from your other spots. If ten days translates to nine nights. You could just divide evenly between the three.

I agree with Ron - you do not have enough time to add CT to the itinerary. 3 nights in each city would be the easiest.

The CT are fine, nice, charming, pretty if overrun with tourists, but you really do need to save them for a future trip, IMHO. And you might consider switching the order of your trip so you don't end up in Rome in August. It's the heat.

Keep your order the same. Venice is easier to fly into and a great place to recover from jetlag. Historically, there hasn't been a great deal of difference tempwise between the last couple of weeks in July and the first couple of weeks of August. It will most likely be hot even in Venice, so you will probably want to make sure you have air conditioning

Kristin, I agree with the others. With only 10-days, it's best to limit the trip to Venice, Florence & Rome (that's also the same time frame as the RS V/F/R tour). At that time of year, Italy will be hot and crowded, and especially in August many of the locals will be taking holidays too. Although I really like the Cinque Terre and will be returning again this year, I wouldn't want to be there in August. Happy travels!

I'm with those who say. It's too much to add CT. You're tight with Rome, Florence, Venice. If you really have 9 nights. My personal favorite is Venice. But Rome is bigger and has more to see. And as a result needs more time. Florence is smaller and easier to get around. Venice is small but also easier to get lost in. And remember you're 1st day you're adjusting to a big time difference. The time may say 8 AM but your body is saying it's 11 PM - 2 AM. So you likely won't see as much. Or remember it. Have fun.

Whenever I am traveling to Europe I always want to see at least one new thing...so, if you have been to all three cities I would consider dropping Rome and going to CT instead. A new place, and yes it is hot, but it is also the Mediterranean and it is definitely hotter in Rome. You can go to the beach and have a different experience together. Save Rome for a time when you can do the south and Amalfi Coast. Just a thought. I would not be happy going to Italy and only seeing three cities... but I like the smaller towns and although there are lots of tourists in Ct they do leave at night so if you stay you will have the beautiful summer nights at the sea. I have been to Rome in July and it was stifling and crowded as well.
