Venice, Florence and Rome Itinerary Advice

Hello,

We are celebrating our 30th anniversary in June with a European trip and need advice for the Italy segment. We have never been and so would appreciate any helpful tips. We understand June is high season, so If tours are suggested to avoid long lines, please advise for which sites a tour is most needed. Each line is a different day. Thank you in advance for your help!

Venice 3 Days
Saint Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge with Gondola Ride - ”don’t purchase a gondola ride ahead of time. Pick one while there, so you can choose the boat, etc. They are located all over Venice.”

St. Marks Basilica and Doges Palace - Evening Tour - ”buy your ticket ahead for St. Marks. Doges Palace - yes, schedule with a tour.”

Day trip to Murano and Burano Islands - ”Just buy a vaporetto ticket and go on your own.”

Florence 4.5 Days
Palazzo Vecchio and Pizzale Michelangelo

Duomo, Baptistery, Giotto's Bell Tower -”Reserve your ticket to go to these. There’s very long lines, otherwise.”

Buboli Gardens, Petite Palace and Medici Palace

Day Trip to Siena
Half day at Uffizi Museum -”If possible, buy the earliest time slot for less people in the museum. Definitely purchase ticket ahead of time.”

Rome 3 Days
Early Morning Vatican Tour St. Peters Basilica and Sistine Chapel -”definitely need a guided tour to enjoy this. Expect it to be VERY crowded.”

Colloseum and Palantine Hill -”yes, a guided tour.”

Explore Trastevere and fit in Trevi Fountain? or Alter of the Fatherland? - ”no tickets, etc. needed. Maybe consider a food tour in the Trastevere neighborhood.”

Consider adding Torcello to your day visiting Murano and Burano. It's a separate island very close to Burano. And yes- you can easily do this on your own with vaporetto passes.

If you want to go up the campanile (bell tower) in Venice (there is an elevator - no stairs to climb), book that well in advance.
