We're headed to Venice early next week. Saw on line today that they are flooded. Any idea how long it'll last? Should we consider changing plans?
Current information welcome!
thanks!
It could last for awhile from what I am hearing...
The flooding is tidal, it comes in and then it goes out. Unless it is a very high tide many parts of the city are unaffected. Life goes on!
If you are coming next week, you shouldn't have any problems with flooding. Flooding is caused by high tides, the phase of the moon, the sirocco winds. This week there were some flooding at Piazza San Marco for a few hours for a couple of days. There were platforms set up so that you can still cross the piazza. The water goes up, then it goes down. We are here now and it didn't affect us at all.
No need to change plans. And if by chance that there is some flooding, and you want to walk in some water, just buy some rubber boots or plastic ones (or your accommodation might ever offer them.) We hardly ever bother with them, we just stay where it's dry.
On the other hand, you may get some rainy days. It's that time of year.
