Does Venice post water levels on a website? Does anyone know how to evaluate the risk of flooding and if one should bring water boots for a visit to Venice at the end of May 2024?
The Acqua Alta high tide events usually occur between October and January for about 4 hours. It’s when the water rises above 110 cm. that there will be some flooding and then only in about 12% of Venice. Elevated sidewalks are rolled out in areas where the waters rise the most ( like St. Mark’s Square) so there’s no need to pack rainboots. In May you likely won’t have any problems. You can get apps, such as “hi!tide Venice” that will tell you what the expected tide levels will be.
