My wife and I are going to be in Venice next week and just realized that the Venice film festival will be going on during our stay. My question is what we should we expect? How bad will the crowds be? Do they close off parts of the city. How about restaurants? Do they raise prices during this? Thank you for your help
The film festival takes place on the Lido - it shouldn't have much of an impact on the city proper. I wouldn't worry.
If you are arriving by air, be aware that securing a water taxi might be difficult without reservations. We flew into Marco Polo several years ago during the film festival, and while one can usually simply walk out to the docks and find a waiting water taxi, all were reserved and waiting for their fares..most of whom were late so lots of crabby taxi “captains”!
