Venice

I have 2 days, 3 nights in Venice in May. Still looking for hotels. Is it reasonable to stay on Mirano. Spend a day there and Birano then ferry to Venice for one day.

If this is your first trip to Venice, I'd say no. Stay IN Venice so you can walk around when the crowds die down at night or in the early AM.

Agreed
Stay in Venice proper
Murano and Burano are nice to visit if you have the time but 2 days in Venice is just barely enough for Venice

Not to pile on, but I will fully agree with the previous posts. Unless you have very specific reasons for seeing Murano and Butprano, at the expense of Venice itself, it would be more efficient to stay in Venice proper.

Fourth visit to Venice in September — as others have said, stay in Venice. There is so much to see and back streets to wander.
If you want to go to the outer islands, choose either Murano for glass or Burano for lace and quaint. Four or five hours plus trip time is long enough on each.
Buy a vaporetto pass to save money and make “bus” trips along the canal and to the islands. See the Grand Canal from a vaporetto at night; the lights reflecting on the water is enchanting.
Have you looked at Booking.com for hotels? Maybe we can help. Dates? Budget? How many people? Special needs?

Buon Viaggio!

hey hey ci_johnson
stay in venice
how many people, dates, what is budget, any amenities needed or wanted, mobility issues, are you arriving by plane or train?
your days/nights are tooooo short to be changing hotels. check-in is 3-4pm check-out is 10-11am.
my own opinion, staying in murano (spelling) or burano takes time on a vaporetto then paying for trips each way, unless buying a pass, that you can add that to cost of hotel. what is your reason for staying on either island. good luck

I agree with everyone who recommends staying IN Venice! We spent 4 nights in Venice last May, and we did not have time to see everything. I can recommend our wonderful hotel, Agli Alboretti, located in the Dorsoduro district. Much quieter and less busy than staying in or near San Marco piazza. Walking distance to many places. And a one-minute walk to the Accademia vaporetto stop and the Accademia bridge.

Thanks everyone. I will just do Venice then and forget about Murano. I see the hotel suggestion and neighborhood so I'll look at that. I'll be in the last week of a 6 week trip. This part is solo and I'm 72. I've done solo before. I'll be taking the train. Trying to keep hotels reasonable but see I'll need to pay a bit more in Venice. From Venice I planned to spend 2 full days in Florence. I have 1 more day to play with and thought Tivoli. Open to suggestions there. Then fly back to US from Rome.

We love Hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente, in the Cannaregio area of Venice. Lots of charm, but no crowds !
