Venice During Carnival ~ Some Questions

I'm considering attending Carnival in Venice for 2010 and am looking for feedback from anyone that has attended. A few questions...

Is Carnival in Venice as crazy as Mardi Gras in New Orleans? How difficult is it to get good accomodations in Venice during Carnival? What were the best events to attend during the time you spent there.

Thanks in advance for any info provided about your experiences both good and bad.

It gets very crowded in Venice for Carnevale, but there aren't floats throwing beads at anyone willing to remove their tops, or lots of drunk people staggering about. It not that kind of crazy.....
And it is still Venice, when I was there after a certain hour everyone just went home and the place was deserted, Carnevale or no Carnevale. I would still book rooms in advance to be on the safe side. I had a great time, there was this neat atmosphere, so much to see, I kept thinking "Wow, I'm actually in Venice for Carnevale". Every year they do this big concert in the middle of Piazza San Marco, and there are all the people who are dressed up in costumes. Bring warm clothes as it will be cold.

Go to Andy's blog. I believe he has a few comments of when he attended Carnival. This will help. Also look into going to the Biennale which is every two years and I believe is this year. You can google Carnival Venice to see other's comments or go to Tripadvisor.
I haven't been during Carnival but if one can go to the Biennale it is a wonderful experience. Most of the art if free and set up all around Venice. As you are walking along you come to some exhibits that are free.
