Venice during Carnevale

I'll be in Venice during Carnevale. The hotel is expensive as it is, I can't possibly afford the expensive costume rental fees and ball tickets. Is there any way a humble poor person like me can enjoy the festivities and see the costumes anyway? For instance, are there parades or processions where I can just stand and watch for free?

Absolutely. I have been to Venice during Carnevale. It is packed with people and hard to even walk around, but there will be people in the streets with their costumes on at just about any time of day. Enjoy!
