Venice Dorsoduro recomendations

Hi
I am staying in the dorsoduro area in Venice in May. Looking for restaurant and shopping recommendations in that area.
Also, am staying at the Hotel Palazzo Stern and wondering if anyone has ever stayed there.
Thanks!

Never stayed at that hotel, but we spent two months in an apartment “down the road”, in Calle Lunga San Barnaba.
We like the bar Ai Artisti in Campo San Barnaba.
Also the restaurant La Bitta in Calle Lunga.

I second the recommendation for Ai Artisti. http://www.enotecaartisti.com/en/welcome . Make a reservation as it is tiny. In fact, make a res every night. Even in October we’ve found restaurants fully booked unless we called a day or two in advance.

Not far (15 minutes walk) from you hotel is Trattoria Dona Onesta, which is not fancy but IMO a worthy spot with good food and decent prices. It has never struck me as overly touristed https://trattoriadonaonesta.wixsite.com/website.

There are two Ai Artisti places in Dorsoduro, and not related.
The bar Ai Artisti in Campo San Barnaba, you would pass this as you walk away from the Grand Canal, on your left. Delightful staff, good service and you can watch the world go by ascyou enjoy an evening drink.

Go a few steps further, turn left at the tabac, cross one bridge and the Ai Artisti restaurant is on your right. It is indeed tiny, I seem to remember eating well there ages ago.

You mentioned shopping. Photographer Fabio Bressalano has his studio just off Campo San B, diagonally across from where you enter the campo, by the bridge, the Pont de Pugni. He does good stuff.
Info re the Pont de Pugni, aka The Bridge of Fists.

The restaurent Donna Onesta (the honest woman) is interesting . If you go there, stand on the bridge, the Ponte Donna Onesta, look up high to your left and there is a little face of a woman. Two explanations, take your pick.
1. It is the face of a one time courtesan/prostitute, reputedly the only such woman who charged an honest fee in all of Venice
2. Two gents were talking, generally about the dishonesty of people, women in particular. One guy said to the other, pointing to the face of the woman and said, “I tell you bro’, that’s the only honest woman in all of Venice”.

Venice is like that; two or more explanations for everything. Paolo Sarpi, Venetian philosopher (he discovered the contraction of the iris and survived an assassination attempt by a guy wearing a kilt) said, “I never, ever tell a lie. But the truth, not to everyone”.

Just a comment on your selection of hotel.
If I was selecting a hotel, considering convenience, Grand Canal views, vaporetto stop very close, cafes, bars, Ca’ Rezzonico gallery almost next door, ten minutes stroll to the Academia, 25 minutes to San Marco or take a vap, then I would select the Palazzo Stern. I have strolled past there dozens of times, envied the guests dozens of times.
Great choice.
