Venice: Doge’s Palace tix question

Planning our days to see the sites.
May 2024 trip.

Arriving Saturday morning (head out Tuesday morning) but keeping it free to wander Venice in case our flights are delayed or something. No point buying advance tix only to arrive too late.
So, reading RS book plus travel sites and lots ofchoices for tickets. Looking for advice from some veterans 😊😊

Sunday or Monday morning try to grab early tickets with Secret Itinerary Tour? Or go later in the day to avoid worst of crowd? We are party of 4, and except not wanting to book anything Saturday morning, we are flexible on time to visit.
Is there an evening tour we can join that’s not $$$$$? (I see one that’s $160 pp and we aren’t looking to spend that much.)
And finally, where is the best and easiest place to grab tickets and/or book tour? I’ve seen posts that say the official site is not user friendly but do t want to get scammed either.
Thanks for any advice, really appreciate this forum ❤️❤️

*****Edited to say that tickets on Getyourguide show no availability for May 2024 already. But also no availability May 2025. Is it too far in advance or are tickets really already gone?!?

Purchase from the official site
English tours -Secret Itineraries-are only at 10, 11:30 and 1:00
https://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/pianifica-la-tua-visita/special-itineraries/secret-itineraries-tour/

There is plenty of availability in May

I’d do one of the am tours, it will only get hotter up there

We visited the Basilica first right when it opened (prebook) then explored the Piazza, had snack and coffee before our 11:30 tour
After the tour you are free to visit Doges Palace as long as you like

ETA

Oh my gosh never mind
You are looking for May 2024??

If you want to go on a tour, look about 1-2 months in advance, especially if you are going end of May. We have taken the Secret Itineraries tour by Walks of Italy and it was excellent. You visit the Doges Palace, Prison (crossing the bridge of sighs), and St.Marks. I have taken this tour in the afternoon at the end of May and wasn't too bothered with the crowds. Because you are going into the Prison, the group is about 12 people. It does get quite warm in the afternoon, so if you are up for a morning tour, I would recommend that.

A money saving idea: typically in December, Walks of Italy runs a holiday sale and you can get 25% off your tours. For my trip coming up here at the end of April, I bought my tickets then. If they stay with history, you could look to take advantage of those savings. I am on their mailing list, so I get the notifications. Sometimes people post the sales on this forum.

Took an after dark tour of the Basilica, and they offer the Doge's Palace as an optional add on. San Marco After Darko, as I called it, was the absolute highlight of Venice for us, on our second visit to Venice, as older, wiser, traveler. This was an absolute highlight in a trip that made me fall in love with Venice, as opposed to the association with hurty feet on our first visit.

We did do the Doge Palace during the day. This was at the end of August on 2017. We did the bell tower first, a 9:30. We must have had 10:00 entry to the Doge, and it was relatively free of people. I took a panoramic photo at 10:11 and another at 10:13 in the courtyard of the Palazzo Ducale, and there are maybe 20 people in each picture. We spent maybe 2 hours in, and by the time we got out, the cruise ship had dumped it's load of day trippers, and the Piazza was insane.

Haven't written the full trip up yet (yeah, 2017 and still working to turn in the homework), but the mob on St. Marks led us to hit the Rick Recommended Rossopomodoro, a 4 minute walk from the exit of Dogeland, and I had the most amazing pizza from a chain I've ever had, along with my introduction to a soda that I obsess about (Lurissa's La Nostra Gazzosa). The pizza, buckwheat flour, tomato sauce (their sauce is surreally good... we hit them again in Cinzano and again at the Milan airport), bacon, arugula, buffalo mozz, figs and cheese frico. One off special, can find no mention of it anywhere, but I have a picture to prove it.

I forget what we did the rest of that day. Would have to consult wife's pictures and metadata. But that was a good day. We did the After Dark tour the day before, so I know we didn't bum around Saint Marks all day.

The after dark or the Secret Itineraries?!? Tough choice I think.
