Venice -- Doge's Palace & SM Basilica

Hello wise travellers, Hoping for a little deciphering of Rick's book. I am trying to figure out whether I can buy online tickets to the Doge's palace and the Basilica to be able to skip the lines. Rick talks about checking a bag but would rather just have a ticket beforehand. Is this possible? We would probably be doing both of these on a Tuesday so any suggestions as to the order and best times would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Todd

No ticket is necessary for San Marco; it is an active house of worship. In Italy churches that have been converted to museums may charge for admission.

Doge's Place tour (we took the Secret Itineraries tour last week) did not require checking the backpack, much to my surprise. But SM does, so pop down the street, check the backpack, get the "pass" and go to the front of the line.

if you can get up early head to the palace first and then visit the basilica.
