My advice would be to skip Murano, and visit Burano and Torcello. Murano is not all that different to Venice, other than that there are many glass makers there. If you are not that interested in seeing glass made, then Murano does not hold so much attraction.
Burano is great. If you are going to Burano by vaporetto, get off at the Mazzorbo vap stop, which is the last stop before Burano. You can then walk through a little vineyard and some vegetable gardens, and over a bridge to Burano.
Mazzorbo was once a big deal place, but silting of the lagoon and malria nailed it. Name derivation from Latin: Big Town = Major Urbis = Mazzorbo.
Torcello is lovely. If you walk around the left side of the church, a path takes you to the more quiet prt of the island. Keep walking, and you can feel that you are in history. You can climb the campanile on Torcello, costs maybe five euro. The stair winds around inside what looks like a big brick box, but inside there are multiple arches, it is light and elegant. The climb is not hard, reasonably sensible stairs and quite spacious. The view from the top really tells you how the lagoon works.
Taking a vaporetto gives you more flexibility. Get the app Chebateo? for planning vaporetto trips. It works really well.
