Planning to extend our stay in Venice after a cruise in June of 2022 and looking for recommendations for a full day guided tour for two.
Elisabetta Morelli and Corine Govi gave us great tours on separate days as part of an RS tour. Both were outstanding. Their website says they can put together a full-day tour.
The last time we were in Venice, we hired Michael Broderick for a private tour. He’s recommended in Rick Steves’ guidebook (at least as of the 2018 edition), and included an exclusive visit inside one palazzo that’s totally off the tourist radar. As Rick describes, his tours are an intense look into current Venice and its long history, and it even came with a bound take-home book as part of the tour. He’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and was an excellent value guide. Check him out at www.venicescapes.org .
Walks of Italy is also an option. I haven't had an opportunity to use them yet (my trip was cancelled due to covid.) They do have several tours in Venice.
My refundable tour became "not refundable" in the chaos of Covid, but they did increase the amount of my credit that I have on account with them and give me up to 3 years to use it. I'm going on a RS "Best of the Adriatic Tour" in Sept 2022 and plan to start off pre-tour in Venice. I will use my credits then.
Thank you all. This is exactly what I was looking for. Travel safe
Best,
Dick
I hadn't thought about this, but if we (a senior couple) succeed in visiting Italy next year we can anticipate my husband will have some mobility limitations. A private tour might be a good option for us, instead of trying to keep up with a group walking tour. Of course we could just poke around on our own, but having a private guide might enable us to appreciate what Venice has to offer while also accommodating his limitations. What do you think?
Hi IrishGael,
You might look at Alessandro Schezzini. He does unique tours that are like walking through neighborhoods with a local. He doesn’t take you into any of the big sites but I thoroughly enjoyed both his “bar tour” that allowed us to try out the cicchetti (think tapas) and the neighborhood tour. His website is here.
We have found that private tours offer great flexibility on pace, content and context. Great suggestions. Thank you.
