My wife and I are headed to Venice this February for Carnival. Any suggestions would be appreciated especially regarding costume rental and balls.

www.carnevale.venezia.it is the official website. You should be able to get ball information there. When I looked into costumes a year or two ago, it seemed that the prices start around €250-300 for a 24-hour rental. It may be a bit late in the day, only 3 weeks til it starts. I assume you have a hotel reservation. Maybe ask them for a recommendation.

We have airline tickets and hotel reservations, but are having trouble with the costume rental and decision on which ball to attend. The cost of the costumes appear to be in the 250-300 Euro range and the cost of balls range from about 250 to 500 Euro. Any help on which costume rental company or which ball to attend would be appreciated.

Maybe, at least for your wife, she could check out second hand shops for a long dress, buy a mask there and voila! I know I bought a dress (in the 80s) for Mardi Gras that would have been fine for Carnival too. Not sure about you tho...know anyone in a theatre company who would loan you something??
