We will be arriving in Venice by cruise ship, and staying in port just over 24 hours. I was looking at the Venice card so that we might be able to tour some areas as we pleasure. It appears that the ALilaguna pass, goes from the pier areas to some of the main points ( includes the blue/ orange and red lines). Would this pass be enough to get me around Venice? Or would I need to also purchase the Vaporetto pass?
I believe that the Alilaguna pass is a 72-hour pass. It's overall stops in Venice are a bit limited. I would suggest the 24hr or 36hr pass from www.veniceconnected.com. The 36hr pass is 25Euro. This gives you unlimited rides on the vaporettos up and down the canals and even out to Murano if you want. You can also select passes with museum option on it. You can either buy online or amazingly, depart the ship out to the Piazzale Roma and buy everything right there at the Hello Venezia booth.
The Alilaguna is designed to connect the airport, the Lido, and the cruise terminal, to a few places in Venice "proper." In addition to limited stops, it only runs once an hour or so. It's not designed for getting around the city. You'll do much better with a 24 hour vaporetto pass, which is not good on the Alilaguna, but will let you use all the other boats.
