Venice Canals - What is the latest on them

Having heard that many of the Venice Canals were dry, concerned with our plans to visit there starting the 20th of April. Can't seem to get reliable up to date information. I'm thinking that if many of them are dry that we cancel our stay there and visit some of the smaller towns on the main land.

Any one of up to date information?

Thanks,

There is nothing wrong with the Venice canals!

There was a photo of one back canal that was empty due to an extremely low tide, and it turned viral. There are numerous posts here correcting that rumor or what every it is. We were in Venice 10 days ago and the canals were full, even splashing over the sidewalks at times.

Thanks, I had a feeling it was overstated and more tidal than anything, but just casually checking for news came up with nothing I could trust! Saw the other threads on this now.

So full speed ahead for Venice!

If people don't live immediately on a ocean coast they will have trouble understanding how much it influences coastal towns, and in particular, Venice. Toss in moon phases and magnetic draws at certain times of the year and we are even more confused. Tidal impacts may only be a number of hours and affect only certain locations. Thankfully, you will not be in the city for the next full moon. But you may want to learn about Acqua Alta, which is the high tides that can happen. Again, it tends to affect the lowest areas of the city...unfortunately, that means Piazza San Marco. Here's I found and the official app for Tidal forecasts https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/acqua-alta.htm

Water level in canals got back to normal two day after the news of exceptional low tide reached newspapers and tv; few days ago there was even a little bit of acqua alta.
Unfortunately in many reports that I've read on this phenomenon, no explanation of how tides work has been provided: The lagoon is not a lake, the water level depends on tides which, in turn, depend on atmospheric pressure, direction and intensity of the winds and the position of the moon; The effect of the rain is practically negligible.
We are still in the middle of a serious drought: lake Como, lake Garda and all the main rivers are suffering, but the situation of the canals in Venice is normal right now ( I live in Venice).

The full moon does not necessarily bring acqua alta. The last full moon was March 7, the day we arrived in Venice, and everything was fine.

Go to the I Love Venice YouTube channel. Lots of webcams of Venice. All is well. Going to Venice ourselves in June.

Ouch. Landing on his belly? That could seriously damage one’s back.

Yes, the fool moon is a necessary condition but not a sufficient one. You need also days of low pressure and strong, Southern winds blowing from the Adriatic Sea.

These days you also need the City budget to be in the red, otherwise they close the Mose dams and the fun is limited to Saint Mark's square

Given how shallow the canals are, doing a belly flop was the only 'smart' thing the idiot did.
