Venice budget accomodations

Looking for a nice clean but inexpensive place in Venice. Early June for only 2-3 nts. We are a family of four & our kids are 11 & 12. We don't need or want luxury but we do want clean, safe, comfortable in good quiet location with a private bath, at a reasonable price. Several car wrecks later a comfy bed is a must! Any suggestions from you all out there?

Margaret,we had the same goals for our family of 4 staying in Venice.I originally wanted to stay at The Foresteria Valdese( offers private family rooms with bath for 4,with breakfast, for 114 Euros per night. They were closed on New Year's Day,so we stayed at our 2nd choice,Corte Compana ( we paid about 150EUR per night with breakfast. We were very happy with Riccardo, the friendly man who runs the place, and thought the quad room with bath was very large and comfortable. Also, the living room area was a nice place to relax and visit, with free computer access. We all thought the beds were comfortable. The location in the St.Marks area was perfect. Both these places are listed in Ricks book.

I recently went through the process of finding a place for my family of 5 in March. We ended up booking the Alloggi Barbaria (
Haven't stayed there yet. Chosen based on reviews, price, and access from train station by vaporeto. It's on the east side of the island, so a bit further from St. Mark's and the Grand Canal.
