Is Venice much more crowded during Biennale, especially in October
If you are going for Biennale check out the new Australian Pavillion.

Venice is crowded from April to November; it has nothing to do with Bienniale ( which occurs every year). October is less crowded than the summer months, however. That is when we prefer to go.
I am not sure if they are still available, but you can get discounted promotional entrance tickets on-line from www.vivaticket.it. Skip-that-line!
Thanks, Don. I tried looking under "arte" in Venezia and nothing came up. But the website is a bit touchy.
When we were there in October 2013 there was virtually no line for tickets or for entry. Also there are some exhibits scattered around the city that are free. One of these, in Campo San Stefano if I remember correctly, was amazing. We'll go back this year and try to find it.
I should clarify my comment above that Bienniale occurs every year. In odd-numbered years it is the Art Bienniale; in even-numbered years it is the Architecture Biennale. There are music and dance events associated with both.
We were there in September of 2013 and had at least a half hour wait in line to get tickets at the Giardini site. However, the Arsenale site had no lines at all when we went there the following day. So if you do not have tickets, that would be where I would go to get tickets first.
