Venice B&B/Hotel recommendation??

Can anyone recommend a B&B or hotel in Venice for, say, under $200/night? We don't mind being off the beaten path. In fact we'd prefer to stay a bit farther away from the madness of St. Marco Square and just walk to the sights. (And yet, we don't mind being in the thick of it if the price is right and the place is still quiet at night.) Thanks in advance for any advice!

Pensione Guerrato. It's a RS favorite. We like it so much we've stayed there twice. Great location on the non-San Marco side of the Rialto bridge, next to the market. The staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. Roberto and Piero are the brothers-in-law who own and run the place. They're just great. You won't regret it. Book now because they do fill up. http://www.pensioneguerrato.it/ I believe they might do a discount for those with a Rick Steves book (which you should buy anyway). Best wishes.

I will second the suggestion of Pensione Guerrato. It is well located and, for Venice, reasonably priced.

It's also booked for the dates we'll be there (mid September). Ugh. Thanks anyway for the suggestion, it is appreciated. By the way, I can't believe how many places are booked already for September!! This is our first time to Venice so I had no idea what to expect. But I thought we were right on schedule to make reservations, but I guess not. I'm trying not to panic..........

http://www.bbvenezia.com/ Definitely NOT in the thick of things but rather down at the tip of the Island in St Elena neighborhood. We loved this place with all of the Venetian families out for evening strolls with Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and the kids and babies. It's got parks with flowers and grass and trees...all on Venice Island. It's definitely not a place where you'll see many tourists which is EXACTLY what I want to see when I visit Venice. There's a convenient Vaporetto stop if you need a lift. However, we really enjoyed the easy stroll along the water or through the gardens to get to the maddening tourist center of San Marco. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187870-d289282-Reviews-Bed_and_Breakfast_Venezia-Venice_Veneto.html

Do you have the RS Italy or Venice books for 2011 yet? If not, you really should. They've got tons of lodging recommendations as well as excellent descriptions of the various neighborhoods. They will also answer questions you don't even realize you should be asking. Best money you'll spend on your vacation. Happy travels.

I had a great stay in 2008 at Ca Centopietre on Dorsoduro. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Accademia vaporetto stop which I thought was a great location. It should be in your price range. I'd suggest that you check recent reviews on tripadvisor. Website is www.centopietre.net.
