Venice auto parking & lodging

I will driving an auto to Venice in September for a two night visit.
I am interested in learning from people who have recently parked rental autos in Venice. I prefer lodging in Venice, thus I
think I must use the Tronchetto lot or the San Marco garage in Piazza Roma.

Do I need to worry about driving in a ZLT zone enroute to either parking solution? Are these lots easy to locate? I think rental car keys may not be given to people other than the registered driver or the c.c. Insurance coverage is voided. Must I leave keys with auto or attendant?

I desired a private bnb with wc in Venice. However, I have had little sucess in locating one with vacancy for September any suggestions are most welcomed. As an alternative I may search for lodging in nearby areas then public transportation Venice . If you did this method, I welcome your
recommendation for lodging?

There is no ZTL in Venice because there are no roads. Venice is connected to the mainland by a road and rail causeway and viaduct. At the end of the viaduct is Piazza Roma with the multi storey car park, and a side road to the docks (Tronchetto). You either drive into the car park or loop around the square and back across the viaduct to the mainland. There is no other place to go.
Others can advise you about the cost of these car parks, but it won't be cheap.

You may want to return the car in Venice as you will not be needing it during your stay there.

There are no ZTL's in Venice as Chris has mentioned, however there are ZTL's you will want to avoid in many small & large cities in Italy.

Here is the information for parking in Venice :

According to above website regarding the Tronchetto parking garage, this is the information regarding car keys:

Lock your car and take your keys with you after you've parked. (Contrary to rumor, you are not required to leave keys in your car; that's true only at the Garage San Marco in the Piazzale Roma)

On our most recent trip to Italy, we decided to stay in Padua (Padova) as we did not find accommodations in Venice & did not want to stay in Mestre. We did not have a car but it was an easy train ride to Venice (travel time 26-28 minutes via Regionale Veloce train@ 4,05€pp)

Check this website for train schedules:http://www.trenitalia.com

Have a wonderful trip!

The most important thing to keep in mind is the camera speed traps on the bridge over to Venice. I can't count the number of posters that got speeding tickets a year later and 6 months after the car rental company dinged their credit card for a service fee for providing your information to the court. Do not exceed the posted limit by even a single kph.

If you could plan Venice at the beginning or end of your car rental period it would be good, because paying for a rental car while it stays parked in a parking structure at 30 euro a day, is a double waste of money.
After crossing the Liberty Bridge follow directions to Piazzale Roma. The parking lots are huge structures that are hard to miss. Here is one in Piazzale Roma. This is at Tronchetto.

No ZTL to worry about in Venice, unless you are renting a car from some Cuban
