VENICE: Artisan workshops or tours (wood carving, etc.)

I'll be in Venice July 29-July 31 and looking for a few "off the beaten path" experiences as this is our third visit. We'll have our 6 year old with us as well. I thought it would be fun to take a tour of an artisan's workshop - like wood carving, glass blowing, gondola builders, mask making, etc. I'm trying to avoid the heavily marketed demos on Murano and looking for something a bit smaller scale, or more authentic. Anyone have any recommendations for a tour or other more unexpected recommendations for a group ages 6-74? We're looking to mostly avoid the crowds in St. Mark's and instead get a more local vibe.
Thanks in advance!

My mom and I enjoyed the 1-hour mask-making tutorial at http://www.camacana.com/courses/abc-mini-courses/. Instructions were good and the masks joined our collections of those decorated by pros. A 6-year-old can do it with your help. Costs can be hard to find on their web site, but it might cost in the neighborhood of 90 euros per person, cash only. This one doesn't require advance booking, but you might want to do that if you're bringing more than 4 people.

There is a gondola repair/workshop near San Trovaso but they only offer visits for groups of 25+. Otherwise, you may view some activity from across the small canal.
