Without knowing your budget, it's hard to recommend hotels. And without knowing your interests, it's difficult to recommend the sites you might enjoy. If this is your first trip, I strongly recommend that you get a good up to date guide book, like RS Italy. It has sections on each of these cities, with suggested hotels at different price points. It will also explain transportation options, restaurant recommendations, and descriptions of all of the major sights (including his "not to be missed" ones).

A friendly suggestion?

Based on this and your previous posts, spending some time with some good guidebooks would be very, very helpful as far as planning your trip. You need a starting point for matching what to see and do with your personal interests, and where to stay based on personal budget and desired amenities: a good guidebook will supply those things. Rick's books are recommended by many on this site who've used them.

I would go to your local bookshop and library and buy/check out guidebooks for both cities, do some reading, decide what sorts of things you want to see, and then get back to us with some more specific questions. That works much better for most of us than trying to organize entire trips for people we know very little about! :O)

You might also explore accommodations on booking.com. It's a website many of us use for accommodations, and it's very easy to navigate and to filter by desired prices, locations, amenities, # of people, etc.

When are you going? What is your budget? What interests you? Ruins, antiquities, history or churches and art galleries? Shopping? Two days - three nights? With this info we can help you.

Both Rome and Venice are pedestrian friendly, get a hotel near the historic centre and walk. Or in the case of Venice be prepared to take the vaporetto, water bus, that's the only public transportation on the island otherwise you walk everywhere.

Buy a good guidebook, one with good maps. Learn the basic phrases, good day, hello, goodbye, thank you etc. Most guides include a short list of these phrases.

We were in Rome just over a week ago and stayed at Hotel Modigliani. We had a triple (3 single beds). The room was not very spacious but it worked well for our 3 night stay. Also it was quiet and very clean. What makes this a great place is the staff who are wonderful. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. Have a great time!

What are wonderful people you are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am amazed by you :)

I will go, buy the guide book or learn from the suggested site.

Actually, Initially plan was to go to London, and Paris. Since we were London just a week ago and discovered all major attractions. Paris was taken off from my list, so I lost. What to do in August?

Also, I was learning about Spain but Spain is such a large country and it needs at least 10-12 days to discovered, so I do not think I can do that either.

I will let you know my interests of major attractions and accommodation before I make a plan.

Thank you!!!

I forgot to mention Angel Tours. We did a Eco City Tour and really enjoyed it. Request Tommaso for your guide. He is great. We learned so much about the history of Rome.

We were told not to miss going to The Borghese Gallary but couldn't because it was booked up. So make advance reservations so you don't miss out.
Unless you plan on going to see the Trevi Fountain super early in the morning, don't bother going. It was so crowded and there are vendors there selling junk. It was a major disappointment.
Good luck with your plans.

I agree with Lesley's question. For accommodations I say have a look at Air BnB, booking.com, and VRBO for an idea of what you can rent at what prices. You'll also get a mix of hotels and apartments in there so you can see what you prefer. If you need a little extra guidance and advice while there I recommend a hotel since you can always ask questions at reception but if you prefer a little independence and being able to cook for yourself at times an apartment is the better option. You might be best with a hotel since it's your first time and you can find rooms with mini fridges and coffee makers often, or electric kettles. I think Home Away is another site too. Let us know more about your budget and dates and I'm sure people will be a bit more specific :)

Suggest you start in Venice and end in Rome.

Pretty sure everyone here will agree flying out of Rome is an easier proposition, than from Venice

Stay at the Ca'Nigra Lagoon Resort in Venice, across the bridge from the train station. You will not regret it! It is so beautiful. We spent at least an hour taking pictures AT the hotel. The staff is amazingly helpful as well! (They booked my train travel for me!!!) Go everywhere on foot, or by the public ferries, which are efficient and frequent. (Don't call a "taxi" as it is a water taxi and can be very expensive). And do book the Clock Tower tour and Secret Itineraries tour at the Doge's Palace. My mother had been to Italy 3 times prior to our trip, but said those tours were the most memorable of all her trips!
