Venice and Rome Apartment Rentals

I am traveling to Venice, Florence and Rome in May 2009 and am looking for clean, nice and centrally located apartment rental options in both Venice and Rome. Being within general walking distance to all of the sites would be ideal. I am traveling with another adult and my two nieces so I would need a place that comfortably accomodates 4 persons - - ideally with a separate bedroom and a sofa bed or second bedroom.

I am hoping to spend no more than about $200 USD per night - less if possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

What dates are you going?

We found a nice, brand newly remodeled apartment, in central Rome for under that - 2br, full kitchen, and sleeper sofa. We haven't stayed there yet, but so far the owner seems really nice (and you deal with her directly). We're there May 20-23. If you're not there on the same dates, let me know and I will send you the info! :)

We will be in Rome May 22 thru May 28. You got it first!

Where did you locate this property? Was it on one of those apartment websites?

Thanks,

M

Of all things (sketchy, I know), we found it on craigslist Rome. A little scary, but glad so far that it's been a good experience! The owner's been really nice, and helpful. There were also links on the CL adds to lots of rental sites.

One people around here recommend alot is VRBO Vacation Rentals by owner - we was some nice stuff on there too. Check em out! :)

For Rome, we just recently booked an apartment through Sleep In Italy. They seemed to have a great selection in Rome in the 160 euro range (4 in our party) in the areas we were interested in staying. We inquired about several of their properties and they sent addresses of each. We were then able to get a street persepective of each location from Google Maps (amazing technology!!!). Getting an "on the ground" view of the street and building really help alleivate any concerns over location.

They did not seem to have as much in Venice, which is our next stop. We've been cruising VRBO for Venice accomodations.

Check out this apartment in Venice: www.vrbo.com/151184 We stayed in this 2 bedroom apartment that is just a block or so from St. Mark's Square. There are two bedrooms and I think that the sofa is a pullout as well. The lounge has a door so it can be shut for privacy if someone is sleeping in there. The kitchen and bathroom are both modern and quite nice. Views from the balconies are spectacular. Also, the building does have a small elevator. I would highly recommend this place.

We stayed at Casa Cavanella at Locanda al Leon in Venice. We had a large room with a loft with 2 twins. Breakfast included. Price was 140E per night. 2 blocks from St. Mark's Square. We rented thru cross-pollinate.com.

In Florence we used rentflorencecity.com to rent the "Dante" apartment. It also has a twin in a loft and a sleeper sofa. BUT it's 65 stairs up. I think we paid about 100E a night. Nice neighborhood near Dante's house.

The apartment we rented thru VRBO in Rome doesn't seem to be avaiable anymore. But I had great success with VRBO.

We've rented both a Tuscan villa and a GORGEOUS apartment in Positano from Summer in Italy. The descriptions have been 100% spot on at both places. They have properties all over Italy from studios to entire Tuscan villas for 16 people, and all price ranges. Like Rick's tours, when you book, you lock in your price in USD and do not have to worry about a last-minute price hike. They have customer service in the US & in Italy (prob in UK too since they also book in UK pounds), but the properties are all locally owned. In both of our instances, the landlords were onsite and fantastic-even spoke some English. Can't recommend Summer in Italy enough. Good luck!
