Venice and Biennale Art Show

In reading Andy Steves' blog, I noticed he said he went to Venice to the Biennale Art Show. I was under the assumption that the art festival was every two years but I looked up their website and saw that it is running September 14-November 23rd of this year. IF you are planning to go to Venice on your vacation, I would HIGHLY recommend you plan your visit around this time. My husband and I were in Venice in 2007 while the Bienalle Art show was "happening".We did not know this was happening and was quite surprised we had the opportunity to be there while it was running. It was a wonderful, magnificent experience. There was so much imaginative expressions of art. It was all over the town. Everywhere you looked there was something artistic. We missed a lot. Plan to spend at least one day exploring the art works. A lot of it is free. You can pick up a booklet that shows you where the artwork is located. You won't see it all but it is such a great way to spend a day using your imagination of what the artist was trying to convey. I was hoping to go next year to see this but maybe it happens "every" year. You won't be disappointed. I just wanted to make any traveler's going to Italy aware that this was going on from September to November, 2008. B

Thanks for the tip. They're going to have to change the name, aren't they, since Biennale means "every two years"?

I wonder if the one held during the even years is scaled back in any way. I couldn't tell from the website.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this. I will be in Venice in 2 1/2 weeks and am looking forward to seeing the art. I can't tell how much is ticketed & how much is free from the website, any info?
thanks!

From what I remember, there is at least two buildings you can pay to go in to see the art. We chose NOT to do this and just view the artwork ALL around Venice. I wish we had gone in to see the art in the buildings. It was not THAT expensive and since we were there but..should of, would of...The booklet shows where all the art exhibits are around the island. When we were there just one of the exhibits was we walked into a building and heard a humming sound. We were to take earplugs at the door. The walls were covered with vertical pieces of wood. We got to a large room and it had a wall full of amplifiers and speakers humming away. Art?? It's a good thing we had the earplugs. Take the time to see as much as you can. It was very amazing and interesting to us "non-artistic" visitors. I'm glad you will be there. Let me know how it was this year. Bonnie. I'll send you a pm with my email address.
