In reading some posts it appears that there is a vaperetto you can get from the Venice airport. Is this possible? Thanks
It is a separate company, Alilaguna. 15 euro. www.alilaguna.it
Yes Bill walk out the airports front door, turn left and you will see signs to the water taxis and Alilaguna vaporettos.
The blue line and the orange will take you to St. Marks among other stops. You can buy tickets in the airport,
at the dock or even on board if you are rushed. Takes about 75 to ninety minutes to get to San Marco dock.
Bon Voyage
The Alilaguna is not a vaporetto just fyi. The Alilaguna is an ok method of travel, but when I took it from the airport it seemed like we would NEVERRRRR get there. All of the water taxis were zipping around us at 30-40 mph while we plodded along about 8mph (it seemed). I think I would rather take the bus to Piazzale Roma and then the vaporetto from there. Either that or take a water taxi from the airport.
My sister took the Alilaguna boat to Rialto and was a bit disappointed. She said it smelled like diesel and took a long time. We took a water taxi and enjoyed it as the sun was shining and the wind helped us get over jet lag.
Water taxi, about 100 euro, but it can take up to 8 or 9 with luggage in about 30 to 45 minutes.
Alilaguna, 15 euro per person. Can take a while if your destination is all the way at the end of the line.
Bus from Piazzale Roma, 8 euro. Also connecting vaporetto service with the bus for 14 euro for a combined trip. If you get a vaporetto pass, you can add the bus trip onto the pass for 6 euro when you buy it.
While the first 2 require a 1/3 of a mile walk to the airport dock, the bus picks you up right at the front door.
We have mostly used the Shared water taxi (about 25 euro per person) from Marco Polo to "downtown". But on departing Venice, we use the Alilaguna. Sure, it takes a while to get to Marco Polo, so it is a slow way of saying goodbye to Venice.
Departing from Venice by Alilaguna is simpler for us that water taxi, as we stay in apartments so don't have the services of a concierge.
How does the "Shared" water taxi work?
Book via this site. http://www.venicelink.com/en/products/shuttle
Venice link assemble a party based on arrival times, area of Venice etc. Group meet at the desk at arrivals, walk to the taxi dock (five minutes). Meet taxi driver, and away you go. Very easy.
We'll be taking the bus from and to the Marco Polo Airport next month.
The problem when you arrive in Venice on a vaporetto is figuring out where your hotel is and how to find it. The city is simply a maze of footpaths and small bridges. I certainly wouldn't want to hit town after dark, either.
