Has anyone used Viator for airport transfer to hotel in Venice? Found a website where they charge $45 per person for shared private boat ride directly to hotel.
If you enter "Viator" in the search window in the upper right, you might find some helpful discussions. Happy travels.
You haven't said how many in your party. Viator is a reseller of tours. They contract with local providers who then actually conduct the tours, or in this case provide the boat service. For only one person it may be an expensive water taxi ride made a little cheaper, for 2 it is nearly as expensive as a private water taxi. If my memory at this time of night holds true I believe that a taxi from the airport to the water gate of your hotel in Venice runs from €100 to €120 for as many as the boat will take. So if the boat owner goes with the Viator plan of a shared ride by the time he has 3 tourists doing the trip he's taking €135 and even after giving the cut back to Viator he's singing. You can see that if they can get 8 people in the boat they're taking €360 for a ride that would have cost 8 people sharing a taxi €15 each (€120 /8 = €15). I've never done it. I suppose it depends on how much you want to work out things for yourself, how much you enjoy sharing a boat with strangers, and how much you are willing to spend on your Venice adventure.
Wikipedia says: The airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice Mestre and to the bus terminal of Piazzale Roma in Venice by scheduled bus services; to several destinations in the Venice itself by the Alilaguna water shuttle (Blue, Red and Orange lines); and to Piazza San Marco by the express Gold Line water taxi. From the airport it is possible to reach: 1. Venice Piazzale Roma by ATVO (provincial company) buses and by ACTV (city company) buses (route 5 aerobus); 2. Venice, Lido and Murano by Alilaguna (private company) motorboats; 3. Mestre, the mainland and Venice Mestre railways station (convenient for connections to Milan, Padova, Trieste, Verona and the rest of Italy) by ACTV buses (route 15 and 45) and ATVO buses;
4. Regional destinations (Treviso, Padua, beaches ...) by ATVO buses and by Busitalia Sita Nord buses (national company).
