Venice airport to venice

Good morning!
I will be arriving at the Venice airport at 10:15pm (2215). Not sure which is the best way to get to Venice itself because of the late hour. Could you please help with best economic option.

Thank you

It would help to know where your hotel is located.

But a general answer, covering most of Venice, would be that the most economical'option, day or night, is a bus from the airport to Piazzale Rome, and vaporetto from there. Younwill see from the vaporetto that the ## 1 and 2, going down the Grand Canal, run until almost 11pm. After that you would use the N boat (Notte) which runs all night. Scroll to the bottom to see that schedule.

And here is the schedule for the ATVO direct bus from Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma:

http://www.atvo.it/allegati/aeroporti/linea_35_dal_1.05.2016_al_29.10.2016.pdf

You can see it runs until 1:20 am. There is another bus as well (ACTV No. 5) but it is not direct:

The Alilaguna "A" line runs from the airport dock until 20 past midnight, and there is an 11:40 pm boat you should probably be able to make. The 11:00 pm boat is probably a stretch, but could happen. That will take you straight across the lagoon to Madaonna dell'Orto dock, although the late boats make a quick stop at Fondamenta Nova first. If you are on the 11:40 boat, you'll be at Orto at 15 past midnight. Walk straight ahead past the church to the next canal and hang a right. First bridge you come to, take a left and cross the bridge and walk straight ahead (Calle Loredan, very narrow) to the next canal and you will see a bridge to your right. Cross that bridge and walk straight ahead (Calle del Forno, narrow). When you come to the next canal, take another right and keep walking along the canal till you come to the third bridge. Cross that one and you enter Campo di Ghetto Nuovo. Locanda will be on the other side of the Campo. Print out a map from google maps as a guide. Cost is 15 EUR per person.

Sam,

Woudn't it be closer for, Jorale117, to get off at the Guglie dock (if he/she takes the Alilaguna line "A") then walks along Calle Ghetto Vecchio & over the bridge?

Priscilla I think you're right, especially considering the hour.

Jorale,

I'd also suggest contacting the hotel to ask about the best transportation options given your late arrival time.

Do pack light, as its no fun carrying a heavy suitcase over all those stairs you'll encounter, on every bridge!

Enjoy your trip!

Question on the ATVO direct bus from Marco Polo to Venice, we are seniors in pretty good shape who will each have just one carry-on size suitcase. Wondering if there are a lot of stairs going up into the bus, and is there an easy place to put your luggage once onboard? My husband has to carry both of our suitcases up the stairs, as difficult for me to lift myself. Also, do you know what the fare might be taking a taxi instead? I thought I had read somewhere that a taxi might cost around 100 Euros, making the ATVO the much better option unless there is a "hassle" factor with the luggage. Thanks for your advice!

I don't know about the ATVO bus, but the airport No 5 ACTV bus is an articulated low floor bus with wide doors and plenty of room for luggage. Open floor with seats on the side.

Debbie, A water taxi from the airport to your hotel will be quick but quite expensive. The Alilaguna boat will only cost about 20 Euros per person. That takes a bit of time as you probably will not be able to get a "non stop" line to the area of your hotel. What many people do is a combination bus and vaporetto (vap.). It takes a bit longer, but that is what we do because we travel very light with just one carry on apiece. There are two bus lines that serve the airport. One is ATVO and is NOT affiliated with the vap. system. The other is ACTV and IS affiliated with the vap. system. At the airport you can get a vap. pass for various periods from 24 to 72 (or more?) hours. You can have a one way or two way bus fare added to the vap. pass. There is a good site maintained by the ACTV system that has current prices and etc.. Don't remember the url so just Google it. If you decide on option # 3, take the # 5 ACTC bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Be sure and validate the vap. pass on the bus. Do not wait until you get on the vap. Also, validate the pass each time you use the vap. Then take to vap. to the stop closest to your hotel. If you know the name of your hotel we can probably give your fairly specific info about which vap. to take and where to get off. We've done option # 3 many times. Easy Peasy and cheap to boot. There is a site called veniceforvisitors.com that has a lot of good info. that you might want to check out .

Hi TC, I should have been more clear in my question. We are staying at the Hotel Arlecchino which is walking distance from the bus depot and St. Lucia station. So we only need to get from the airport to the bus depot. Just wondering if a regular land taxi is quicker and easier than having to get on the bus, and what the usual cost of a land taxi is for that route. Thanks for your help!

It is 8 EUR per person on the bus. Taxi is 21 EUR (estimated).

Debbie, Sorry, I misunderstood. The least expensive thing to do is catch the ACTV Bus # 5 to P. Roma and then you have only a short walk to the hotel. Handling the luggage on that bus is a non issue. The taxi will be more convenient but may or may not be quicker depending on traffic

Hmm ... Debbie, "walking distance" from Piazzale Roma bus depot may require going over a substantial bridge which with luggage appears even higher and longer.

Debbie, Go to googlemaps.com and type in the name of your hotel. By clicking on the + and - buttons you can enlarge or diminish the size of the map. You will then be able to see the relative positions of P. Roma and your hotel. They also have excellent aerial views of the area, and "street" views so you will be able to "walk" the route before you ever get there. There are a couple of small bridges between P. Roma and the hotel but the hotel itself is very close to P. Roma. The long steep bridge is the Constitution Bridge and you do not have to go over it.

I've been following this thread. We'll be arriving at VCE after an overnight at 9:05 AM next June. There are three of us(2 adults 1 teen) with luggage. Thinking that it will be worth the extra money to do a water taxi to Locando Orseolo? Thoughts?

ksinclair, I would be happy to chime in on this if you copy and paste your question into a new thread. The OP may be getting tired of receiving notifications about other people's plans.

ksinclair

if you start your own threads you won't be lost in people replying to the original question, not your piggyback.

In partial answer, if you think that it is worth it for your group it may be. It is always up to you, not what somebody else thinks.

Only you know the value to you of €120 or so (you say you have luggage - so do most people - so it must be a lot or you wouldn't have mentioned it) and only you know the value of a private water taxi through the lagoon to your hotel.
