Venice airport to town of Venice

I am joining a cruise ship arriving in Venice the day befor and lingering a day after due to flight schedules. I do need a reasonable hotel, thinking near the airport would probably be best since we arrive after 11pm. What is the best way to get from the airport? Can anyone recommend a hotel?

There are several hotels near Venice Marco Polo airport. Two that I would suggest are the Marriott Courtyard which is .8km from the airport. 132E/night. Not sure about shuttle. You might also look into the Titian Inn Hotel and Residence. It's also nearby the airport and, they have a shuttle. http://titianinn.hotelinvenice.com/overview.html?source=-titian+inn+hotel+venice

There is regular bus service from the airport to the Piazzale Roma on the island. 3Euro each way. CLICK HERE to see a graphic on the bus route. The Piazzale Roma is also a major vaporetto stop as well being very close to the cruise terminals.

Which airport is the very first important question. Venice has two.

I guess both. Since airline reservations are not in place...

Venice really has only one airport. It's Venice Marco Polo. There is an airport 40 minutes away by train that is in Treviso. For marketing, some airlines and many websites refer to this airport as Venice Treviso but it's not Venice; it's in Treviso.

Unless you will be flying Ryanair, SkyEurope or Wizz airlines, you are going to want Venice Marco Polo.

Also, if you use Venice Marco Polo, I suggest that you don't book your flight out before 9:00am. This will permit you to use very inexpensive bus transportation to the airport in time for checkin. Many travelers book a flight too early and find themselves having to take high-speed water taxis at 100E per ride ($150) to get to the airport in time for checkin. However, if you like the fast "James Bond" ride through the side canals of Venice at the crack of dawn, by all means take the water taxi.
