Venice airport to hotel

What is the best way to get from VCE airport to our hotel near St Mark’s. Hotel Antigo Trovatore. Bus vs train and where to we go from the airport to find the train or bus.
First time in Italy and our first Rick Steve’s Tour.

Thanks 🙏

If you're on a Rick Steve's tour, you will get detailed instructions on how to get from the airport to the tour hotel. I believe the instructions will be provided 30 days before the tour start date. Please check your tour account online as you get closer to the date.

According to the hotel's website https://www.antigotrovatore.it/come-raggiungerci/ :

From Marco Polo Airport: Alilaguna Blu shuttle ( www.alilaguna.it ), San Zaccaria stop or ACTV bus line n. 5 to Piazzale Roma, then ACTV vaporetto line n. 1 st line n. 2, San Zaccaria stop

There is no train from the airport. Best way, IMHO, is to buy a combi Bus+Boat ticket for 14 EUR. Take the No 5 bus right outside the airport door to Piazzale Roma, get off and take the No 1 vaporetto to San Marco/San Zaccaria. Don't forget to validate your ticket when you board the bus and walk onto the vaporetto dock. Walk straight down the alley to the left of the Hotel Danieli about 200 feet. The boat ride will be right down the Grand Canal for a bit of of "Welcome to Venice" eye candy. Download the Rick Steves Grand Canal audio for your device for a guided tour.

I prefer this route over the Alilaguna, as that boat is low in the water and you don't get very good views through the salt-soaked windows. It is also a long trek to the airport boat dock, although there is now a moving walkway in the overhead sky-bridge. The No 1 boat is slower than the No 2, but it drops you at the dock closest to your hotel, and it works perfectly with the Rick Steves audio.

We have used the Alilaguna a few times, but not any more. Crowded, slow, tedious.
Busto P. Roma and then a No 1 or No 2 vaporetto to San Zaccharia is easiest.

While staying near San Zach, do take a look in the San Zach church. A beautiful Bellini altar piece, and also a crypt where a couple of Doges are buried.
The crypt takes water when the tide rises, so amazing photos with reflections off the water.

That hotel doesn't seem to have AC. I would not be happy with that unless you're going during the cold season.

Three ways to get from the airport to hotel -- only you can decide which is best for you:

First: Water taxi is the most expensive. There is a shared water taxi system now but we haven't used it and can't comment.

Second: Alilaguna boat. Takes longer and you may not be able to get a non stop to the area of your hotel.

Third: Least expensive is a combination bus and vaporetto (vap.). Takes longer, but that is what we do. Two bus lines serve the airport. One is ATVO and is NOT affiliated with the vap. system. The other is ACTV and IS affiliated with the vap. system. At the airport you can get a vap. pass for various periods and can have a one or two way bus fare added to it A good site maintained by the ACTV system has current prices and such. Don't remember the url so just Google it.

If you do the third option take the # 5 ACTV bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Be sure to validate the vap. pass on the bus. Do not wait until you get on the vap. Also, validate the pass each time you use the vap. Then take the vap. to the stop closest to your hotel. We've done that many times. Easy peasy and cheap to boot.

There is a site called veniceforvisitors.com that has a lot of good info. that you might want to check out .

Hotel does have AC.

Located 500 feet behind St Mark’s Square, Hotel Antigo Trovatore offers air conditioned rooms, great water bus connections and is just a few steps from the Zaccaria Vaporetto (Water bus) stop for Santa Lucia Train Station.

Offering free WiFi, rooms at the Antigo Trovatore are simply decorated and feature a satellite TV and a private bathroom with hairdryer. Some rooms include a terrace and some rooms offer views of the 16-century Doges Palace and Saint Mark's bell tower.
