Venice airport to Dorsoduro

Any comments on taking the Alilaguna ferry from Venice airport to Dorsoduro my first morning in Venice? I know it take longer than the bus, but is it a nice and scenic trip? Or should I just take the bus, then a vaporreto.

I have done both Alilaguna and bus+vap. Also the shared water taxi.

Alilaguna is not very scenic, as the boats are low in the water and the windows are often salt encrusted. Also the queue for the Alilaguna can be very long at Marco Polo. Next trip we will either take the shared water taxi or the bus+vap.

Shared water taxi thus http://www.venicelink.com/en/products/shuttle

Costs 25 euro, you have to book for two passengers minimum.

Thanks so much. Since I'm traveling alone, I'll probably do the bus. I will contact the shuttle service to see if they will allow a single, and senior rate.

I don't think there are any senior rates, but if you are staying in Venice and getting a vaporetto pass, you can add the airport bus on to your pass for a couple of EUR off the normal price.

Thanks so much. I've read a lot of bad reviews about Alilaguna. I'll probably take the bus to Piazalle Roma, then vaporetto to near the hotel in Dorsoduro. I wonder what the water taxi from Pizzalle Roma to Hotel Ca Zose?

There's no good way to the Dorsoduro. The hotel website suggests taking the Alilaguna to Zattere, but I don't recommend it because it could be a confusing walk to the hotel. The best option looks to be the bus, then the Line 1 vaporetto from Ferovia (train station) to Salute. From there it's a short, simple walk to Ca' Zose. The alternative I would consider is the Alilaguna Orange Line to Ca'Rezzonico (takes a little over an hour), then wait for the Line 1 vaporetto to Salute.

Alilaguna is a nice ride across the lagoon, then around Canareggio to the train station, and then the same route as Line 1 along the Grand Canal. On the other hand it isn't the most comfortable.

The combination bus+vaporetto ticket is 14 EUR includes the No 5 bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma then a vaporetto ride to your destination, in this case the No 1 vaporetto to Salute.

I'm now thinking of paying for the water "shuttle". I know it's a 2 person minimum, but for 27 EU x 2 = 54 eu, it might be worth the ride and experience. I don't mind being with a group of strangers. Do you know if the water taxi shuttle will drop me close to my hotel, near Salute or Accademia Bridge?

My suggestion. Don't pre-book the shared water taxi. When you arrive at Marco Polo, rock up to the desk (it is mentioned on their web site) and just ask for a ticket. Chances are you can join a group that has already booked. Certainly they can deposit you at the Salute or maybe Academia, which is not far.

I think the reason they demand bookings by a pair of passengers is to ensure that at least two people are in the water taxi.

I would expect the shuttle to stop at any vaporetto stop.

I sure appreciate your suggestions. I'll probably do the walk up and try to get on the shared water taxi shuttle. You guys are great and so helpful!
