Venice airport rental car

Hello! We are renting a car at the Venice airport and I was wondering how much time to leave for pickup/drop off. Is there a shuttle from the airport to rental car area like in the states? We will be arriving in Venice, then staying for 5 nights, then picking up rental car to go to Modena for 4 nights. Driving back to the airport on day of departure - our flight leaves at 12:30pm. I’m thinking of leaving Modena around 7am. Will that give us enough time? Also, what’s the best way to get from Venice to the rental car area?

Where does the flight go? If to another Schengen destination it should be OK, as long as all goes well. I would be inclined to leave at 6, to have a bit of cushion in there is a 'oops' along the way. If the flight goes to a non-Schengen destination you will need to factor in additional time for passport processing.

Is the rental car just to get to/from Modena? If so, it might be easier to use the train.
Does your lodging in Modena provide parking?

Why are you picking at the Airport and not at Piazzale Roma square? Is it cheaper?

Since you are in Venice, why are you driving to Modena and not going by train? The area between Veneto and Emilia Romagna is totally forgettable.

You could get the car in Modena and drive back to the airport. That would make more sense, as long as you need a car to visit farms and factories... and assuming you can avoid the ZTLs. Otherwise you can train to most towns in the area.

It takes two hours plus stops and € 33 to drive via the A13 from central Modena to Marco Polo Airport. I have just checked on viamichelin.com putting 7 am as hour of departure.

We have a layover in Paris before heading to Atlanta. I think that means we have a little more time. Already looked at renting in Modena (we want a car to be able to drive to dairies and car factories, etc) but there are no automatics available there. While both me and my boyfriend have driven manual before, it’s been a long time and we would be more comfortable in an automatic. Plus, I think it would be harder to coordinate train travel with the airline schedule rather than just being able to get up and drive. Our Airbnb host said there is a parking garage about a 10 minute walk from the apartment and we’re ok with that.

As I wrote above, I agree about driving from Modena to the Airport, nevertheless getting the car at the Airport instead of Piazzale Roma sounds strange. Are you saying there are only manual cars to rent also in central Venice?

I'd rather ask your host if you must drive around the ZTL to reach this garage coming from Venice or if they can provide a ZTL pass.
