I just heard about the low water situation in Venice. Acqua Bassa I didn't know such a thing could happen.
The BBC news web site has some interesting pictures of the canals with the gondolas grounded, they are not very deep.
It happens every few years, when there is a really low tide.

When I Googled “acqua bassa” to learn more about the recent event, I had to scroll past articles about acqua bassi in 2017 and 2005 before I found anything about the February 2021 one.
I don't suppose that MOSE can operate "in reverse" to keep water in the lagoon and city -- ?
Dick: it's a lagoon that needs to "breath", not a lake. Why blocking a natural event that does no (or little) harm and brings new water in?
