Venice - Accomodation Suggestions needed

Hey guys,

I want to go to Venice in September/beginning of October. As I am a quite "not-planning-person", I started last week to search some accommodation possibilities... I was searching at that site which a friend recommended to me but I wasn't really satisfied as well as with all the other booking websites that are there because they have soooo many hotels!!

So I found that forum here and hope to find some insider tips from someone that was already there. It shouldn't be too expensive, I don't need a luxury hotel. It should be central and clean, that's all.

So I hope you can help me!
Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about September of this year, this is really late to be booking a hotel in Venice – particularly since you want one that's not too expensive. I like the hotel Doni, which is very simple, but it's typically booked well ahead.

I suggest you go on booking.com or venere.com, enter your price range, and see what comes up. Stay on the island of Venice – not in Mestre, even though it's cheaper.

It would help if you decided what district you wanted to stay in, and any guidebook can help you figure out what the different districts offer. The RS guidebooks typically provide a good overview of districts – although I think you'll find the hotels he recommends booked at this point. Booking.com allows you to plot the hotels on a map so you can tell where they are; I'm not sure about venere.com.

Last October I stayed at B&B Zaguri, http://www.zaguri.net. It is less than a 5 min. walk from the Water Bus/Taxi stop, S. Maria del Giglio, and just under a 10 min. walk to Piazza San Marco .

Define "not too expensive" in euros to get more helpful responses. Also, at this late date, try booking.com or venere.com as those will allow you to filter and show only those places that have availability for your dates. And they both have lots of reviews so you have more info to go on.

If you request a lower price range for your search, and specify your dates, the number of options should become more manageable. Then, I would choose one that is either close to a vaporetto stop or closer to sightseeing (generally, further from the train station). I also recommend using Rick's guidebook for Italy or for Venice, although the hotels recommended there will be more limited in number and do fill up.

Try airbnb, set a price range, dates, etc. and see what is still available.

I'm not sure what your price range is, but we will be there beginning of October . . . we are going on the Rick Steves Venice, Florence, Rome Tour and we are going in a few days early to spend some time in Venice on our own before meeting up with the Tour. We wanted to stay in the same hotel that our Rick Steves Tour is staying in (so we wouldn't have to switch hotels), so we emailed them in May and they were already booked for October. We tried LOTS of places that were already booked, so you may have to spend some time searching. We finally found a B&B which was rated high on TripAdvisor - Campiello Zen . . . most of the places in the RS Venice book were already booked full when we began looking in May. I imagine you'll find something on airb&b or TripAdvisor...

Sabrina, am I reading your posting right that you find the booking site overwhelming because there are too many choices and you want someone to select a hotel for you ? Even if you take someone's suggestions, you can't be sure that THEIR level of comfort as to "clean" and "central" and "not too expensive" will match YOUR requirements.
For instance, we liked Hotel Florida near the train station (which I found on venere.com) -- but you might not. There have been people who disliked Rick Steves recommended hotels. No guarantees.

Thanks for the relpies! I know I'm late and it's difficult to know if your criteria are mine as well but I always loved hotels other travelers recommended to me, so I'm sure I'll find one among your suggestions.

Thanks a lot!

We stayed at 'A Tribute to Music last September'.......it's located right on the promenade facing the Grand Lagoon. Had a water view room, service & cleanliness was spot on. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We booked directly with hotel. Rates for the location and view were very reasonable for Venice in September. Staff promptly and happily replied timely to all emails and requests. You can book online but if there is a question of availability I would email them...I found them very accommodating. Family owned and run.

We recently stayed at Hotel Serenissima, situated about halfway between the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. No frills but clean, comfortable rooms at reasonable prices and a helpful front desk. Would recommend, and plan to stay there again the next time we're local.

Try Ca Bonvicini. It is on a very quiet canal and easy to walk to everything. It is just steps away from a vaporetto stop - they tell you exactly how to get to them.

We loved it!
