Venice accommodations with canal view?

I'm only going to be in Venice a few days in late April, but it's very important that we have a room with a view of either the main canal or even one of the smaller ones. Checked the guide and have been reviewing websites but haven't been able to determine which ones have it, and which ones don't. Any suggestions? (And we'd also like to be in close proximity to St. Mark's Square.)

You can use TripAdvisor to review hotels near St. Mark's Square & you can determine which hotels have a canal view. I saw quite a few with canal views however the ones with Grand Canal views were pretty expensive.

I know Pensione Guerrato has at least one room with a view of the canal. The room is just above their reception area and overlooks the Rialto Market and then the canal. I loved the view and the hotel.

In October, we stayed at the charming 10-room Hotel Galleria (150 Euro/night). Not all the rooms have a view of the canal, so be sure to request one that does. Located at the foot of the Accademia Bridge (and vaparetto stop) and very close to St. Mark's Square. www.hotelgalleria.it

I agree with Cynthia, the Hotel Galleria is a great little hotel. We stayed there a few years ago and had a nice view of the Grand Canal. Breakfast is served in the room and it was very nice watching the activity on the canal while we ate our breakfast.

Places with a canal view will say so on their website, and most likely will price the canal-view rooms separately. In addition to the Hotel Galleria mentioned above, Hotel American Dinesen and Hotel Accademia (both in Dorsoduro) have canal-view rooms. The Dinesen has rooms with balconies over the San Vio canal and a side view out to the Grand Canal. I'm not sure about the Accademia, it may be more of a side view.

We are planning a trip this summer and are planning on staying at this place in Venice right on the canal with a terrace to sit at for only 160 euros a night. http://www.vrbo.com/184569

Hotel Doni which is 2 blocks from St.Marks has a few rooms on a small canel where the Gondolas travel. It was a very nice place but for me the extra money isnt worth it because after a busy day Im too tired to do anything but sleep anyway.

We stayed at the Westin Europa/Regina and had a beautiful room with a splenid view of the canal and when you eat breakfast you can sit outside and you are about 20 feet from the canal and very very close to St. Mark's square. It took us about 5 minutes to walk there from our hotel.

We enjoyed the Casa Verardo which has some canal rooms. ( www.casaverardo.it) It is about 4 blocks away from San Marco but it was quiet ( in December, anyway).
I've read the main canals were noisy; anyone comment on that?
