My husband and I will be visiting Venice next October for 3 nights. Looking for suggestions on where to stay - we prefer small boutique hotels, BandBs, or apartments away from the touristy areas and preferably with a view of canal. Thank you!
There are quite a few threads on the subject, just in the past year, that can be found using the Search function: https://search.ricksteves.com/?button=&date_range=1y&filter=Travel+Forum&query=Venice+accommodations+&utf8=%E2%9C%93
The search results are sometimes a bit wonky, but you should find quite a few suggestions. It would help to know your budget per night, in euros.
It will help if you provide your budget per night, preferably in €.
According to your descriptions, the Dorsoduro district could be a good fit for you. It is located in the south of the city and is a bit away from the hustle and bustle. Nevertheless, you can quickly reach the San Marco district by boat or via the Ponte dell'Accademia, where you can find various sights. The district is located here.
The area near the main train station is the most affordable in Venice. You are not likely to get a canal view, but you will save $$$$.
Budget of 150-250 euros/night. Thanks for the helpful info!
We enjoyed the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo, (www.alpontemocenigo.com) very much in October 2022. It is a 10 minute walk NW of the Rialto Bridge, and the 3rd stop from the train station on the #1 vaporetto. The hotel is 50 meters from the San Stae stop, with no bridges to cross. It has no view, but our very comfortable and quiet double room with an additional small sitting room in this 16th c. Venetian palazzo was delightful. We paid 150 euro per night for room and breakfast in Oct. '22. The breakfast in the garden terrace or adjacent pretty dining room and its friendly staff ranked high in our favorites in 3 Italian trips. RS discount available with cash payments.
Thank you for your recommendation! Looks beautiful - unfortunately it is already sold out for mid October. We'll keep it in mind for a possible future trip!
