Venice Access Fee

We are staying in Venice for 3 days in May. We went to the official government site to apply for an exemption (means we are staying in Venice) but the site just states the portal to request 2025 exemptions will be available soon.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

The website says check back starting March 18, 2025.
it is not accepting payments of the access fee yet either.

Just by chance I was on the site this evening and finally it’s open. I successfully created an Exemption and received our vouchers for late April. Took 6 or 7 minutes to complete the entire transaction.

I thought the hotels are supposed to provide the exemption.

Hey Warren.

I dunno. Maybe.

In one of fields I was asked for the name of the hotel. I started entering it and the field auto populated with the hotel name and address. In the end, the system generated the exemption codes. I’ll print them tomorrow and put them in the trip folder.

Hi
Can someone please explain to me what's this about? My wife and I visited Venice last summer and we're planning to visit again Oct 2025 (three nights). I will definitely want to know if we need to do something different this time around since we didn't need too last summer.
Thank you

I haven't heard of this either. What is it? like the city hotel tax? or something else?
3 of us will be in Venice at the beginning of May. But we'll be on the island proper.

Venice charges a visitor fee for anyone not staying overnight. When you stay overnight, you are exempt from the fee, but you still have to register your stay and get an exemption code.

What is the site to register for an exemption? I went to a couple of places, but only see how to pay the fee.

NEVER MIND, found it: https://cda.veneziaunica.it/en/exemptions. Look under the heading: LIST OF CATEGORIES EXEMPTED FROM THE ACCESS FEE PAYMENT. It will say "Subjects who must request exemption compulsorily" and "Request exemption" is a hyperlink to the form. Took me a while to find this!

For 2025, the Venice access fee will be in effect every day from April 18 through April 30 (during the busy Easter festivities); and then every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday until July 27. That’s 54 days in total:

April: 18–30
May: 1–4; 9–11; 16–18; 23–25; 30–31
June: 1–2; 6–8; 13–15; 20–22; 27–29
July: 4–6; 11–13; 18–20; 25–27

If you’re heading to Venice on a day not listed above, you don’t need to worry about the fee or registration.

With Access Fee we refer to the fee, introduced by the Municipality of Venice, which must be paid by occasional visitors, on some specific days in 2025, to be able to access the ancient city of Venice.

The amount provided for the Venice Access Fee is:

5€ daily for those who pay the Access Fee by the fourth last day before the day of access

10€ daily for those who pay the Access Fee after the fourth last day before the day of access

For example if the access day to Venice's historic center is Sunday, by making the reservation up to and including the previous Wednesday, you pay €5.00 per person; if, instead, the reservation is made from the third day before, from Thursday onwards, the amount to pay will be €10.00 per person.

The amount is unique, for a single person and there are no reductions.
