Venice 72 hour pass

Hello there
I did an advance search for this and didn't find any current dates on the subject. I was wondering does it still exist and if so, is it worth it? We will be in Venice over the 72 hours and would like to travel to Torcello, Burano and Murano also. Will this pass cover the costs to go there? How expensive would a trip cost without the pass (6 Euro pp?) there are four of us.. And I have a feeling the children will want to ride when they can... thank you in advance for any help you give to educate me on this pass.

Viv, the Tourist Travel Cards, as they are known, still seem to be there. They are still listed on the www.actv.it website. A single fare on the vaporetto is 6.50Euro so a pass or card of some type is useful. CLICK HERE to see the fare information for the card. The vaporettos do go to Burano and Murano. Not sure about Torcello. I see it on the vaporetto map but I don't think you can get there from the main islands. It's vaporetto #12.

As of February there is a new system run by the City of Venice, veniceconnected.com. You can buy the 72 hour vaporetto passes 14 days+ in advance, depending on dates you can get a small or larger discount. Otherwise you can still buy the passes once in Venice for the full pass price. The vaporetto rides are 6.50 euros/person. The 72 hour pass is normally 33 euros, discounts can get it as low as 24.75 for low peak dates. 5 vaporetto rides at full price gets you close to even on the full price pass so just decide how often you think you'll be riding the vaporettos. Some people have had issues with the purchase, it did work for me and I'll be reporting back in just over 2 weeks after we pick them up and start using our 48 hour passes. The passes cover all the vaporetto routes that are available to the public, not the ones for the locals, so yes, they include the outer islands.

I can tell you from personal experience that the vaporetto does go to Torcello, although you'll probably need to change twice (once on Murano and once on Burano) to complete the trip - not difficult, and that the entire trip is covered by the pass. I always buy a vaporetto pass when in Venice and find that I save a small fortune over what I'd pay for individual tickets. For example, the round trip to Torcello would cost a minimum of 26 euro per person if buying individual tickets (need 4 tickets at 6.50 euro, as each is good for only 60 minutes), which demonstrates the value of the pass.

Passes are still available.

If you are planning on taking in Murano, Burano and torcello, the easiest way is to take the vaporetto to Murano in the morning. Early am is when the furnaces are working so you can get a glass blowing demo. then on to Burano, from burano it is a short hop on a different boat to Torcello.

Lunch can be had on all three islands.

Opinions are mixed on the multi day passes. Some folks like having them and ride the vaporetto a lot. Others find that they walk a lot more than they ride the boats. Those people often get a 12 or 24 hour pass and do the lagoon islands in a day.

How old are your kids?

WOW~ thank you all for the help! I will buy the passes in advance to help save even more money... Sounds like it will be quite useful.
I will buy the 72 hour one since we will be there and I will like the option of not wondering if my time is up. However, one thing I am still not clear on... is this an unlimited pass in that time frame or good for only so many rides?

thank you again. I have been dreaming of Venice for so long.. I can't wait.

Oh sorry I forgot this question the kids are 10 and 12. Love boats. Love anything really..

Unlimited. Also note that nobody checks for tickets as you get on or off the vaporettos. Its only occassionally that the authorities run through unannounced to check for tickets. Big fines if you don't have one.

The last time we were there and purchased a pass - they WERE checking them. Almost every time we got on. We just kept the pass in our pocket and were ready to show it. People were grumbling because it slowed down the boarding.

Enjoy Venice Viv - from the questions you have been asking - it sounds like you are planning a fabulous trip!
