Venice

Hello RS Helpers,

We will be in Venice this May for 2 weeks. We will be flying into Marco Polo. Has anyone used Get Your Guide shared water taxi transfer? It says it is $50.00 per person one way. We are staying in the Zattere area.

We would also like to go to Milan by train for the day. The goal will be to see The Last Supper. I am looking at a guided tour when we get to Milan. Tours appear to be between $75.00-$150.00. I am trying to decide if we just want The Last Supper, or other areas/sites included and more expensive. I don’t think you go inside other buildings just outside. We can book this online now. Does this seem like a good idea rather then book direct with the painting site? Does anyone know how far the site is from the train station?

Thank you for the good information you always provide.

Since you said “we” in your question, I am assuming there are at least two of you. The shared water taxi is not a particularly good deal for 2 or more, in my opinion. The private water taxis at this link are 122 Euros for the two of you. https://www.motoscafivenezia.com/en/

We used the company last fall and were completely happy with them. It’s a fantastic way to arrive in Venice. The taxi will leave you right by your hotel.

How many is "we"?

The official water taxi is:

about 120 euros for a private taxi- no matter how many passengers and you won't have to stop along the way to let off other passengers.

Get Your Guide is a third party reseller- I'd just book with the official site.
I believe you can also book a shared taxi at VCE

We booked Last Supper thru their official website and booked the English tour for a few euros more. Our guide was fantastic. Super informative experience.
I think you might be referring to Walks of Italy LS tour that also includes walk around Milan but no entry to Duomo, etc.
We did the Duomo and roof top terraces on our own and that was sufficient using RS guide book.

Milan is a huge bustling city. We actually did the hop on hop off bus after our LS tour- there is a stop just around the corner and rode all the routes that day. It was enough to see the city. It was end of a long trip and we were tired of walking- it was actually a good HOHO experience.

Use Google maps to locate station and Last Supper- it's way too far to walk- probably an hour or so. Take the metro or a cab to LS.

We like Italo for the train between Venice Santa Lucia and Milano Centrale. The journey is 2.25 to 2.5 hours each way. Prices on Italo start at €9,90 per person if you purchase well in advance. Trenitalia probably has similar prices.

I wouldn’t advise a walking tour or other guided tour, as with that much time spent on the train you will want so free time to wander on your own, get lunch, etc. Book your own tix for the Last Supper and consider booking a rooftop visit at the Duomo. We loved that. You can choose either elevator or stairs ( our choice). The close-up views of the architectural details and the sculptures are well worth the effort.

Best lunch we’ve ever had in Italy
Panzerotti Luini
Down an alley left side of Duomo
No seating and expect a line but it was so delicious ( and cheap)
