Venice - 4 star hotel recommendations

Hello, fellow travelers.

While I'd much prefer to stay in a cozy, family run hotel myself, I am making arrangements for a medium size group and must find us a 4 star hotel. Rick's Venice guidebook has some fantastic hotel recommendations, but they tend toward those smaller, 3-star-or-less hotels. Can anyone recommend a 4 star hotel, preferably away from the most heavily touristed zones, that can handle about 15 rooms but still provides charm and value?

Thanks!
Scott

We stayed in a fantastic hotel that was out of the way, yet close to a Vaporetto stop.
It also has it's own dock on the outer side of the City.

Wonderful breakfast, as well as the largest garden in Venice. I believe it used to be an Embassy.

Can anyone recommend a 4 star hotel
charm and value

You might get better suggestions by just giving a sense of your budget. If you do some research you would see that the "star system" is not really consistent, and can often be misleading. Good luck.

I have used the Hotel Continental for groups up to 30 rooms. It has a veranda/dock on the Grand Canal. It is near the the train station, so it can get busy on the Lista di Spagna in front. It might fit the bill.

I guess "value" is subjective term.

$300+ per night comes in at "serious splurge" in my my dictionary ( re: boscolo hotel)

good luck

Note that in Italy, stars are awarded for specific amenities on the property. Read reliable reviews before you book.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I do understand that the star system is about services, not necessarily quality or value, but nevertheless I'm in a position where I need one for this trip (long story).

I'm still hoping I can find a four star that still has charm and value.

  1. What amenities do you desire in a 4 star hotel ? As was stated, the star system denotes what amenities are included, such as an elevator. The star system doesn't really tell you that the property is "more upscale".
  2. After you determine the needs of your group, go to booking.com to input the information into the filters.
  3. Come back on the forum to get opinions.

What time of year are you looking at?
Charm and value, off the beaten track with 15 rooms to spare? Better get cracking. You might have to settle for 2 out of 3.

Will be there to check out hotels in late September. The group trip will be September 2018. We have some time to work with!

April: Since my wife is a Hilton Diamond member, we have stayed at the Stucky a couple of times before. Nothing beats a free hotel in Venice, and they really did a great job renovating a dilapidated property into a fine, if really big hotel. I remember seeing the empty shell of the Stucky in 1991, and am glad it's now so nice. It's on our list and we're talking to them about rates.

I've been able to find 3 other four star hotels that just might work out and include the charm and neighborhoods I'm looking for.

As far as talking me out of using a four star hotel, don't bother. I understand what you're saying, agree with you, but I'm in a position where I need to use one for this group.

Thanks all, for the replies.

Happy Travels!

Understand there are untold reasons of why you are doing what you are doing, so my only question ( sorry I cannot help with a solution) is:
Did you volunteer for this or get conscripted?

Hopefully your group appreciates your efforts, but it would not surprise me that someone will have a complaint, regardless of how well you do in selecting a hotel.

GOOD LUCK

We've booked the Hotel Saturnia & International for our groups on 2 different occasions as well as private family travel. It's the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in Venice.

I've stayed at the Bauer and can recommend it.

It's not away from the touristy areas (except at night when many of the tourists leave), but it's a lovely hotel and well located.

Joe: A bit of volunteering, a bit of conscription. Limits can bring out creativity. I've found some nice hotels, and am committed to showing this group an authentic, back street, back canal, back church side of Venice.

Tim: I stayed at the Saturnia some years ago and it was fantastic. Great place and great location. I'm checking into it for this trip. Thanks.

Steph: Ah, the Bauer! Wish it was in our budget. If only because it was the hotel in the movie Don't Look Now. Thanks for the suggestion.

We're looking that the Ruzzini, as well. I really like the area it's in.

Thanks, all,
Scott
