Venice 2 transportation questions

First question: Rick's Venice guidebook says that the ACTV pass for the Vaporetto is also good for ACTV buses including #5 to the airport. Sounds like I can save a few euros buying a multiday ACTV pass upon landing at Marco Polo, use it to get into Venice on a ACTV bus and then use it for the a couple of days on the Vaporetto, yes?

Second question: Without a car, going from Venice to Padua, it appears there is a choice between bus or train. Any reasons to prefer one over the other?

thanks

You can have a one way or two way bus ticket added to the regular Vaporetto pass. This can be done at the airport upon arrival or ahead of time online. Just be sure to validate the pass as soon as you board the bus and each time you use the vap. There is a very good site maintained by the ACTV that can answer a lot of questions about the cost and lengths of time for passes. Let me know if you need specific info about getting to your hotel. Getting to Padua by train is so easy I would not even consider the bus.

The Venice-Padua bus is also easy. Since I had come into Padua by the direct bus from Venice airport, I scoped out the bus stop and decided to take the bus to Piazzale Roma for my "return." Not a preference, just a test that worked fine.

The train is faster if you take the Regionale Veloce to Padua, every half hour at 12 and 42 past the hour. Takes 26 minutes and costs 4.05 euro. The bus and train station are next to each other. The tourist office is in the train station and you can get a transport day pass there. The tram stop is right there for easy quick way to the center of town and other sites.
