Hello, We will be flying into Venice in September and spending a full day there which for us enough. Although I'm sure it will be wonderful we prefer smaller towns with less tourists and can only handle the bigger cities for about a day. We are doing a 9 day trek on Alta Via 1 route. We will then have 2 full days to explore the Veneto Region. Here are a list of the towns we have found that look interesting: Vicenza, Padua, Verona (those 3 seeming to be the bigger towns?), Treviso, Arqua Petrarca, Moselice, Marostica, Asolo, Bassano del Grappa. It seems like most people don't recommend Ferrara or Bologna as much for various reasons. We obviously can't see all of the towns in 2 days and will be using public transportation between the towns. Which town do you recommend we stay in for day trippping to the other towns? We are thinking maybe Verona or Bassano del Grappa but wanted to get other people's opinions. Which of the towns are must sees? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much!
Acqua Petrarca is lovely. The area of the Colli Euganei is beautiful, with many small cities, some easy to reach by bus but a car is helpful. The walled city of Montagnana; Este, many villas and vineyards nearby. I love Ferrara.
Thank you Zoe! Now you gave me more options!! Yikes! LOL! I appreciate your response! Thank you & I will look into those as well.
On a side note, I see you're from Toledo. I grew up in Cincinnati although now I live in Colorado. Thanks again!
You are welcome. If you opt for a car, there is a nice agriturismo in the Colli Euganei I can recommend.
I moved to Toledo several years ago, previously lived in Las Vegas, Miami, and Roma.
No we won't have a car. Since it's only 2 days we'd rather use bus/train options. Thx again Zoe!
Ferrara is wonderful, but along with Bologna, is part of Emilia Romagna.
With only 2 days and restricted to public transport I would stay in Vicenza and journey from here to Verona and Padua. Vicenza has the wonderful architecture of Andrea Palladio at every turn.
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it!
