.Veneto region

We are traveling by car to the Veneto region in mid September, 2014. Our plan is to spend one day in and around each of the cities of Verona, Vincenza and Treviso. Our day to visit the Vincenza area will include: Soave, Vincenza, Marostica, Bassano del Grappa, and Asolo. Any suggestions on what to focus on and/or what to avoid?

Your trip is focused on cities and towns. But Veneto, and next door Trentino-Alto Adige, also has majestic mountains (Dolomites), beautiful lakes (Garda and several small ones), and hilly wine regions (Valpolicella and Colli Euganei). You should include those in the mix, since you have the advantage of having a car.

Sounds like you're already on the right track. Happy driving!

The correct spelling is Vicenza, btw. It's pronounced "Vee-CHEN-ssa".

Don't miss La Rotunda in Vicenza, a short drive from the train station, right on the main road and there's a convenient parking area on the side of the road for pictures. The centro historico of Vicenza is a great place for a stroll to admire Palladian architecture. Another highlight is the Teatro Olympico, just off the Piazza dei Signori.

I wouldn't try to do Soave, Vicenza, Marostica, BdG and Asolo all in one day unless you're just planning on driving by and snapping a few pics in each. You could probably do Soave and Vicenza in one day and the other three the next day. When we lived in Vicenza we would often spend the day in Bassano just strolling around, the views of the Brenta with the Dolmites in the background are spectacular. One really interesting historic part of Bassano is the Viale dei Martiri. Do some research on the background first for the whole story behind it. Marostica is small and can be done in an hour or so but the real allure of Marostica is seeing it from a distance.

Soave is a nice enough town to visit (my oldest son was born there) but doesn't take that long to explore either.
