My son and I will be in Venice for a few days and we are wondering about taking the boat to Murano and Burano. Any suggestions or directions on getting tickets, which docks to depart from, and just general impressions or advice from those who have visited these islands would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Easy boat ride to both islands. Murano is about glass. Burano is about colorful houses. I thought the boat ride was nice to see the area on the water. If you have a few days than see the islands.

Both the RS Italy book and the Venice book lay out how to do that. If you don't have a copy of at least the Italy book, allow me to recommend it highly. It will be the smartest money you spend on your vacation, not only because it will answer these questions, but it will answer questions you never even knew you needed to ask. Happy travels.

While an easy trip, to visit both I would allow at least a half day. You will also want to verify schedules when you get there and plan your time on each island to take advantage of the boat schedule, otherwise much of the time will be spent either on the boat or waiting for the boat.
