I was wondering how venere.com works. I see in the "hotel policies" section of the offerings that you hold a room with a credit card, and then pay once you get there (like you do in the States). Are the rates posted on the venere.com site the ones that we will pay once we get there? And, can we pay with credit card or does it depend on where we stay? I checked the "personal" website of one of the hotels listed on venere.com and it said (if you book directly) that they hold a room with a credit card, but want payment in cash only. If we book through venere.com, can we still pay with credit card, or would their cash only policy still adhere? Thanks!
Venere doesnt control the hoteliers it serves as a clearinghouse for. You are bound by THEIR rules. If they will hold on a card # but want payment in cash, that is what you must do. Venere is merely a conduit for their services.
We used Venere for our stay in La Spezia. We booked online and as I recall, used our credit card. When we got to the hotel, we just presented our CC and it was just as if we had booked directly with the hotel itself. Venere was out of the picture. Our hotel bill was from the hotel and not Venere.
I booked a hotel in Venice through Venere.com that required payment in cash even though the reservation was held with my credit card, You'll need to follow the hotel's policy (the place I booked was cheap enough that it wasn't a problem, LOL).
I've used Venere several times, including for my upcoming trip. I've never had issues. Carefully read the confirmation notice emailed to you - if it says you must pay cash, then you pay cash. Likely though if you booked with a credit card, you'll be ok with the credit card at the hotel. If you can get a cheaper rate booking directly with the hotel, paying cash on arrival, then I'd do that. I've only resorted to Venere when a hotel's website couldn't get me what I needed.
