I see they have several entire apartments you can rent and wondered if anyone has any expiernce with these. Any suggestins are welcome under the $400 limit is good

For more reasonable lodgings in Venice, look for small hotels in the area near the main train station in Venice.
We found one there some years ago, sorry don't remember the name.

If you are really going next week, don't waste time contacting individual hotels. Use a site like www.booking.com. I do all the time. They have apartments, too. We have rented apartments in Venice many times. It's a good option.

Yes I have used Booking.com as well...the only down fall is that I will have to call the hotel the day I get in because I am with the airlines and go standby and most hotels have a 3 day cancellation policy.

An apartment would be perfect for you. We like the company Views on Venice for apartment rentals. Booking with an agency like this eliminates all the uncertainties with booking on AirBnB or owner-direct on booking.com.

I checked and they have an apartment for 3 adults ( one bedroom apartment with sofa bed in the living room) in a great location available for either 3 or 4 night beginning 3 May. Those are almost the only dates available in May for this particular apartment. Cost for 3 nights is €825, which is well within your nightly budget.

The Dorsoduro location is excellent—-I know because we spent 4 nights in a different Views on Venice apartment very close by in March, and this location became our favorite of all the places we have stayed in Venice. It is close to the Accademia bridge for access to San Marco area, but much less crowded with tourists. The nearly Zattere provides a nice wide canal-side path for walking around Dorsoduro, and will take you to either of two Conrad grocery stores within a 10-minute walk.

Their representative will meet you at the closest vaporetto dock (Accademia) or will book a water taxi to bring you from the airport or train station to the closer San Vio dock. For 3 people this would be a splurge but well worth it, considering the cost of 3 Alilaguna tickets from the airport, and the extra convenience and pleasure of the water taxi. Of course if you are coming from the train station you could just take the vaporetto for €9,50 each—-but I do not like riding the vaporetto with luggage, especially boarding at the Ferrovia which can be a zoo.

The balcony is a nice bonus.

If stairs are an issue, be sure to examine listings very carefully. There aren't a lot of elevators in Venice, and if a lodging is in an old palace, the climb even to the (European) first floor can be significant because of the high ceilings.
