I’ll be arriving at San Marco airport via car taxi as some family members will be flying home that day. I don’t fly until the next day, so I booked one night on the Lido. I know how to get to the Vaporettos from the airport arrivals area; however I’ll be dropped off in front of the airport. I don’t imagine we can walk through the airport since we’re not flying, so how do we get to the Vaporettos? Is there a path that goes around the airport or ?? I’ve searched maps and I can’t find anything other than directions from the airport arrivals area. Help!!
The Alilaguna dock is outside the airport and there is a moving walkway part of the way. It is to the left exiting the airport door. When I say you can't miss it, I mean it. There will be many people walking that way. It is also where the water taxis dock. No "vaporettos" at the airport. These are boats operated by ACTV, Venice transport authority. Alilaguna is a separate company that operates boats to the airport.
Why on earth are you staying in Lido, a long way from the airport? Why not in a hotel near Piazzale Roma, where you can be in Venice and a short walk from the bus that will get you to the airport in 20 to 30 minutes for 8 EUR.
Where are you coming from in a car taxi?
Search for info on Alilaguna. That's the boat that connects Venice to the airport. The vaporettos don't go there.

We’re staying at the Lido because we wanted a beach day. We’ll be in San Marco at the beginning of our trip before training to Lago di Garda. I’m still confused about how to get to Alilaguna from the car taxi drop off? Can we go through a part of the airport without plane tickets to get to Alilaguna?
We’re coming in a taxi via Sirmione. I know, I know......don’t have to tell me it’s crazy! But, my Mom wants a simple journey. I can’t change her mind on that. So, I just have to figure out how to get to Alilaguna because we won’t be exiting the arrivals gate. We’ll be dropped off at the taxi stand in front. Again, as for the Lido, we’ve never been, have a place booked and have a late flight. Thanks!!
No reason this is a problem. Here are directions to the Alilaguna dock from the arrivals hall, which you will have access to. You can buy your ticket inside the hall or at the dock.

For Lido you will want the Red or Blue line, not the Orange.
So, I can go to the arrivals hall when I don’t have a plane ticket? My plane ticket will be departing the next day. Just checking. Thank you!
The taxi drops you in front of the airport. Go upstairs and you will find the sky-bridge structure with the moving walkway to the boat dock to your right. Here is a google satellite view.

Airport Icon at the top, Boat Icon at the bottom. It is, as you would expect, on the water.
Here is a streetview of the sky-bridge structure from the parking lot. See the taxis lined up at ground level underneath it.

Sam, thank you!!! I couldn’t wrap my head around how I could get to the arrivals without a plane ticket, security and such. Thanks for easing my mind. :)
I take it mom is paying for the taxi. Otherwise, you could have the taxi take you over by the Alilaguna dock after dropping her off. Or, have the driver drop you at the dock first, say good by to mom and send her in the taxi the quarter mile to the airport entrance.
I like the way you think! Yes, this is her deal. She really messed up an ankle falling down some spiral stairs in a Metro in Paris years ago. She’s not able to go like she used to, but isn’t about to try a wheelchair. It’s not like she’s an invalid. She’s a young 76, but that ankle does look painful to walk on. So, this whole taxi business is her idea. She doesn’t want to worry about anything. She’s also booked a taxi from Sirmione to Milan in the past! Ha! I’m definitely going to have the taxi drop me and my daughter off first! Thanks again, Sam!
Here's another possible twist that I might consider.
I absolutely detest the Alilaguna because of the confined cabin with smells, dirt, poor visibility and noise. How about having the taxi drop you off at Padova, Mestre, Gaggia or Quarto d'Altino (my fav) station in conjunction with a train to Ve.SL where you can get a number 1 all the way to Lido?
Or take the land bus from the same place your Mom goes at the airport (very near by) to P.Roma and the number 1?
Much better views, less diesel fumes.
I agree with Nigel.
The whole party abandons the taxi at Marco Polo.
Mom heads to departures and check in.
Melissa plus sprat heads for the bus to Venice Piazle Roma, which is about 15 metres from the taxi drop point.
On arrival at Piazle Roma, Melissa plus sprat board a No 1 vaporetto, ultimate destination Lido.
The Alilaguna boats fall into the interface between really bad and horrible.
I LOVE these suggestions!!!! I think I’ll go with the bus and the Vaporetto. So, from the taxi stop at the airport where will do I walk to catch the bus? Does anyone have a time schedule link handy? This is brilliant. Every time I’ve been to Venice I’ve taken a private water taxi. I’ve taken Vaporettos, but I had NO idea the Alilaguna was cr@p. My Dad keeps saying we should just take Alilaguna to St Mark’s when we arrive because he also has no idea the reviews are bad. It also sounds like this is how my daughter and me should return to the airport the next day?
Buses to Piazzale Roma are every 15 minutes. You need to take the No 5 bus, right there where the taxi drops you. There is a unified combined ticket for 14 EUR includes the bus and the vaporetto to Lido (or anywhere in Venice). Buy it from the machines by the bus stop. The No 1 vaporetto goes every 12 minutes.
Fantastic! I’m set! Thanks so very much! :)
Just outside arrivals at Marco Polo you will see several buses. There are two bus services going to Venice, ACTV and ATVO. The combined bus plus vap deal only works with ACTV. ACTV is like a commuter bus, ATVO more like a tour coach. There is a bus departing every 10 minutes, the ride to Venice takes 20 minutes.
The destination of the bus is displayed on the front of the bus. You want Venezia or Venezia P. Roma, which are one and the same.
