Vatican Website Not Working for Me--Any Special Tips?

Today I've been trying to buy the online reservation and "skip the line" from the Vatican website. All goes well until checkout, but at several different times, the system will not take my credit card payment. I talked to the credit card company (Chase), and my notice of travel in western Europe is in effect, and there is no problem of any type with my account. This is the first day I've seen tickets for my date available, but the site is allowing me to select preferred date/time.

Are there any caveats for using their site, such as phone number format or something else it is finicky about?

You're using either a MasterCard or a Visa, right? I've never had a problem using my Capital One MasterCard.

It was probably also my Capital One MasterCard that I used on the site two years ago. For your phone number, try typing it in the same format as above, with a + in front of the country code (which is the 1 in an American or Canadian phone number). I would also avoid any punctuation in your name info (hyphen, apostrophe, period).

Thanks much for the advice.

In case it helps someone else, this is what happened. I called and was cut off mid-conversation two times, and other times I was cut off because no operators were available. I e-mailed (and had earlier e-mailed the Help desk), and received a courteous reply to both e-mails. However, the e-mail advice of allowing pop-ups and possibly changing browsers did not work. I gave up on that after trying all three browsers I have installed.

So the end result is that I just paid $9.42 USD extra for a ticket through getyourguide. I figure that is not too bad a premium to pay for the same ticket plus a guide to lead you inside. It's not my style, since as a retiree I figure I have more time than money. But the peace of mind is worth it, since it's the only bad karma I've experienced in booking the details of an eight-week trip.

I used a Chase card on that site two days ago and it went through with no problems. It may have been a glitch on the site.

I have had the same problem! I'm going mad because I want to do the early entry at 715 and there is no other way to buy it! I have tried 5 computers, 4 credit cards, 3 different web browsers, disabled pop-up blockers, called my credit card company, and emailed the Vatican ( they said to disable pop up blocker and call my credit card company) . I have done this every day at different times over the last week. Any chance anyone knows what to do!!!???

You need a card that's part of the worldwide "Verified by Visa" security network for on-line purchases. MasterCard equivalent is called SecurCode if I'm not wrong.

You must call your credit card company and tell them you need to make a purchase on a site that requires it.

Edit: At the Vatican they tell to disable the pop-up blocker because they think you can't see the Verified by Visa pop-up window where you are supposed to enter the password and the one-time code. They probably think that all US credit cards have already joined the 2 security networks.
