I am going to attend Wednesday Papal serivces at the Vatican when in Rome. Would it make sense to tour the Vatican on the same day or should I plan to do it on a different day. Thanks

The museum will probably be more crowded Wednesday afternoon, but if that's the day that works for you, I'd go despite the crowd.
One thing about the audience. We went in late September and arrived a little before 8, which I thought was insanely early. I was amazed at how crowded the piazza was at such an early time--at least half full. So you might want to keep that in mind as you plan your day. You don't mention when you're traveling, but if you're going in winter, it would be in the audience hall, and I'm not sure how early that opens.

We will be going in mid-June - thanks for the tip on getting there early. We will be in Rome for 5 days so maybe we will do the Vatican another day. I have a request in for the Scavi tour and am hoping to receive tickets.
