Vatican tours, morning or afternoon?

A friend returned from the tour which was scheduled in the a.m. and she said the lines were out the door and when opened, they could not even stay with the tour guide. She suggested doing the afternoon...any opinions?

Just don't go on a Monday. That's when the museums are most crowded.

It does depend on the day of the week, month you're there - and time of day! Usually, the Museums are less crowded in the afternoon. I generally went after 13:00 and rarely, if ever, did I wait in a line. In the afternoon, the hallways were also less packed than during my AM visits. This post may give you some additional helpful hints for the Vatican.

We had a tour that started at noon and then once we got in line, it was tolerable. It just limits the amount of time to see the museums, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's and then if you want to climb up the dome. The lines, however, are supposed to be shorter in the afternoon.
