Is it possible to buy a skip the line ticket for the vatican and just tour on your own? We are arriving from port and the tour times do not seem convenient.

There are people outside the museum with little signs claiming that they have skip the line tours. Don't know how reliable these people are, but they are there and claim that they have skip the line tours. If you want to chance it and you can't find the time you need, it's a option. They're like scalpers standing outside a sports stadium selling tickets. Did you try the actual Vatican website? They have all kinds of entrance times. You can also try your cruise line activities, Expedia activities or the Vatican web-site.
